Transforming your maternity services together
Better Births, the report of a national review of maternity services in 2016, set out a clear vision for maternity services across England to become safer, more personalised, kinder, professional and more family friendly.
Local Maternity Systems help turn this vision into reality. We provide the leadership and deliver the action to make local transformation happen.
Every woman will have access to information about the whole maternity system in order to enable her to make informed choices about her care. She, her family and baby will be able to access support that is centred on their personalised needs and circumstances.
Local Maternity Systems give women unbiased evidence-based information to make choices about their care and improve continuity of carer.
Local Maternity Systems are there to bring together all the people who are involved in providing and organising maternity care such as; midwives, obstetricians, service users, neonatal staff, managers, commissioners, public health, educators, perinatal mental health providers and GPs to transform maternity services and improve quality.
Local Maternity Systems are also charged with the delivery of the NHS Long Term Plan clinical priorities for maternal health.
In Northern England there is one Local Maternity System working closely together:
