MVP case study: Development of BadgerNotes app

patient accessing online record using badger notes

The Maternity Voices Partnerships (MVPs) in Durham and Darlington are now closely involved in the development of the digital maternity record which women can access through their smartphone or device. They are working with the Local Maternity and Neonatal (LMNS) digital transformation team and the system supplier to ensure that women’s needs are placed at the centre of the app’s development.

This has included gathering service user experience of using BadgerNotes – the digital version of the maternity, patient held notes. The feedback from service users highlighted some issues with navigation plus some challenges in accessing all the information contained in the maternity record. Service users also suggested a read aloud function, more visuals and the need for information in different languages. The MVP are in on-going discussions with the system supplier – Clevermed to explore these issues and the usability of the app.

In addition, the MVP are looking at supporting local universities to help educate student midwives on using the app so they can not only advise women on how to use it, but also access and use the system themselves.
